Erma Jane Whiting Moulton, a life-long resident of the Heber Valley, passed away July 8, 2018; she was 88 years old. She was born June 8, 1930 to goodly parents, Wayne and Violet Whiting, in Charleston Utah. Her parents, who both enjoyed a rich heritage in the LDS church, taught her the gospel at a young age.

Erma developed a fervent testimony early on that she continued to build upon and cherish throughout her life. People who knew her well understood that her testimony of the Gospel was one of her most valued possessions. On September 14, 1949, she married Derial Leo Moulton in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Derial and Erma were blessed with 12 children that they raised on a dairy farm near Heber. The family worked together to keep the cows milked and the hay put up giving them the opportunity to learn the value of hard work. In 1984, Derial was tragically killed in an accident leaving Erma to care for the farm and four children still at home.

Erma was a loving and devoted mother to her children. Her youngest daughter, Amy, was born with severe disabilities and required infant-like care for her entire 18 years. Erma considered Amy a great blessing and knew that Heavenly Father had great confidence in her to care for such a special spirit.

After Amy’s death, Erma was able to serve two full-time missions, one to Arizona and one to Canada. Erma loved the temple. Especially during trying times, she relied heavily on inspiration she received while there.

Erma was a talented seamstress, homemaker and gardener, and enjoyed keeping journals and doing jigsaw puzzles. Her life was a shining example of selfless service to others—service to her husband, children, grandchildren, and church. Erma and Derial leave behind a great posterity of 12 children, 52 grandchildren and 80 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a brother Kenneth (Nelda) Whiting, Logan, UT, 5 daughters and 5 sons: Tony (Myrna) Moulton, Palmer AK; Margie (John) Elwood, Elko, NV; Karen Moulton, Provo, UT; Kent (Kathy) Moulton, Brigham City, UT; Susan (Lindsay) Holmes, Troutdale, OR; Diana (Bob) Hyde, Heber, UT; Bruce Moulton, Duchesne, UT; Robert (Jennifer) Moulton, Seattle, WA; Teri (Paul) Sweat, Heber, UT; and Brian Moulton, Midvale, UT. Erma is preceded in death by her husband, daughters Patti Bauer and Amy Moulton, sister Lucile Flygare, and brothers Eugene and Roy Whiting. Funeral services will be held at the LDS Chapel located at 1205 West 650 South, Heber City, Saturday, July 14 at 11 am with a viewing Friday July 13, 6-8 pm and Saturday, July 14, 9:30-10:30 am preceding the funeral.
