Erma Jean Waldrop, 85, of Mountain View Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at her home. Visitation will be 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, December 14, 2018 at Sunset Church of Christ with Mike Veilleux officiating.

Interment will follow in Woodbine Cemetery, Artesia, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Erma Jean Waldrop was born May 29, 1933 in Cottonwood, NM to B. Franklin and Ethel Ardella (Jordan) Howard.

She married Cecil Troy Waldrop May 25, 1961 in Tierra Amarilla, NM and they moved to Carlsbad in 1962. Erma went to work at JC Penney as a part-time sales clerk and after the kids were older, she moved into full-time bookkeeper, retiring after 25 years of service in 2000. She was a member of Sunset Church of Christ.

Erma enjoyed cooking and gardening, but most importantly spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Kyle McGilvray; brothers: Leonard, Lester, Buster, Donald, Ernie, Bennie, Sidney and Wayne Howard; sisters: Leola Wagner, Nella Mae Howard and Bertha McCurry. Survivors are her husband, Cecil T. Waldrop of Carlsbad, NM; son, Johnny Waldrop and wife, Becky of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Carol McGilvray and husband, Darrin of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Justin Waldrop, Ashley Rainwater and husband, Ron, Ryan McGilvray and wife, Stephanie, Lane Waldrop, Chance McGilvray; great-grandchildren: Brayden, Dru and Daxton Rainwater; sisters-in-law: Sophia Bernhardt and Mildred Howard.

Pallbearers will be Justin Waldrop, Ryan McGilvray, Lane Waldrop, Chance McGilvray, Darrin McGilvray and Ron Rainwater. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View Christian Camp, c/o Sunset Church of Christ, 1308 W. Blodgett Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220 or to Lakeview Hospice, 1300 N. Canal Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220 The family would like to thank the employees of Lakeview Hospice.
