Obituary for Ernest King Ernest King was born to Marion Chriswell and Mary King on March 15, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois he had 6 other siblings. He received his formal education in the Chicago Public School system graduating from DuSable High School. Ernest furthered his education by attending Kennedy King College.

Ernest married and had three children Christoper King, Kimberely King, and Kindra King. On June 10, 1980, Ernest married Frances Henley and inherited two more sons Van and Dennis Merridith. He enjoyed being both a husband and a father, and worked to instill in his children a willingness to help others as he did.

Ernest served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a man who left no one behind, was generous of spirit, a hard worker and had a smile that was constant and brightened any room he entered. Ernest enjoyed working with his hands and had many skills which enabled him to care for his family.

He was employed by the United States Postal Service until he retired. Surrounded by family on September 26, 2018, Ernest King closed his eyes and rested from his labors. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Henry King and Richard King and grandson Elijah Griffin.

Ernest leaves to mourn his passing, his loving and devoted wife Frances King; children Chris King, Kimberely (Jesse) Griffin, Kindra King, Van Merridith, and Dennis Merridith; 4 siblings Robert (Imma Gene) King, Inita (Otis) Williams, Gene Robinson, and Sam King; 11 grandchildren; special friends Tara and Lamont Walker; and a host of family and friends too numerous to mention.
