Ernest L. “Ernie” Reinier, 81, of Hillsboro, IA, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019, beginning at 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 14th at 10:30 a.m. at Hillsboro Christian Church with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating.

Born August 13, 1937, in Ollie, IA, Ernest Leroy was the son of Harry B. and Dorothy Zoe (Ruggles) Reinier. He attended Hillsboro High School. Ernie enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955 and served his country proudly.

On December 28, 1960, he married Aileen Hayes in Reno, NV. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2011. Ernie worked on various jobs in California prior to coming back to Hillsboro in 1999.

Working as a ceramic tile setter he worked for Reinschmidts for fifteen years and Donnie Messer for five years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Northern California Tile Industries Union. Ernie was a member of Hillsboro Christian Church.

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family who he dearly loved. Survivors include three daughters, Linda (George) Kennedy of Farmington, IA, Diana (Craig) Carter of Sonora, CA, and Mary (Kevan) Cole of Cranston, RI; one son, Nick (Terri) Reinier of Hillsboro, IA; two brothers, Frank Reinier of Walnut, KS, and Bob (Christie) Reinier of Hillsboro, IA; and two sisters, Ruth Messer of Hillsboro, IA, and Treenon “Treats” Davis of Hillsboro, IA; fourteen grandchildren, Shawn Borland, Elizabeth Brown, Kelly Kremer, Brandy Clark, Barbara Adams, Robin Carter-Ervin, Tarion Reinier, Jesse Kirwan, Heather Caldera-Ramirez, Tyler Cole, Callie Cole, Kelly Carter, Brandi Kennedy, and Hannah Reinier; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his loving wife and parents, Ernie was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Reinier; a sister Freda Marie Reinier, in infancy; two nephews; and one niece.
