Born on July 5, 1923 in Great Barrington, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Stanley Bartlett and Myrtle Ethel Codding Bartlett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Stanley Eugene Thomas in 2006, and by her sister, Gladys Haines. Esther was a loving homemaker who enjoyed cooking and sewing.

She was also a dog lover and enjoyed skiing. Being active in church was always important to both Esther and Stanley. They were most recently members of Open Door Baptist Church in Belmont, MA, where she was the church organist.

Esther and Stanley faithfully volunteered at local nursing homes on a regular basis, providing music and encouragement to the residents. Esther went everywhere with Stanley and she loved traveling by his side. Esther always held her family close to her heart.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Patricia) Thomas; grandchildren, Joy (Jeff) Durham, Faith (Greg) Mathews, and David (Melodie) Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Jaden Durham, Jacob Durham, Joshua Durham, Cole Mathews, Savannah Thomas, Jackson Thomas, and Cooper Thomas. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the fellowship hall of Western Avenue Baptist Church on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A burial in the Belmont Town Cemetery in Belmont, MA will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Western Avenue Baptist Church, Att: Missions Fund, 1206 Museum Rd.
