Ocala, FL. – Mr. Eugene A. Poole, (age 81), Commander Sgt. Major Eugene Poole transition to be with the Lord on November 25, 2018 at West Marion Community Hospital.

He was educated in the Marion County School System and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Sciences from the University of South Florida. Commander Sgt. Major Eugene Poole retired from the United States Army.

Mr. Poole was the Commander of the American Legion (Post 210) Ocala, Fl. (1963). Eugene Poole was the first African American to enter the 3396 USAR Reception Station in Gainesville, Fl.

In 1965, he was elected president of the Florida Voters League, Inc. and the Marion County Voters League where he currently served as president until his demise. Mr. Poole was appointed as the first African American Assistant Superintendent (Warden) in State Prison for Women in 1975, (1976) Chairman of the Florida Council on Vocational Education in Tallahassee, (1984) Chairman of the Regional Coordinating Council, (1985) Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council, (1987) SGT. Major 301 Field Hospital USA, (1998) appointed the Florida Fund for minority teachers, Inc by Governor Lawton Chiles,(2000) Founder and Chairman of Future Leaders Academy for Arts and Science).

He applauded former sheriff Ed Dean for his support to transport the students to receive an education, currently serves as the President of Veterans Helping Veteran. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: (Sons) Vipond (Djuna) Poole, Melvin(Maria)Poole, Vimel(Tracy)Poole, Arvelle Poole,(Daughters) Glenda Robert, Mya Poole. (20) Grandchildren,(15) Great Grandchildren, (4) God-Children, (Sisters)Gloria Cain(Wilford), Shirley Poole, Diane Poole-Thomas, Oveater Miree(Gary), Brother: Alden “AL” Poole(Patricia), Wardell Frazier(Sandra), (Aunt) Peggy Graham, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.

Life Celebration for Commander Sgt . Major Eugene A. Poole will be held 11:00AM on Saturday, December 01, 2018 at House of God Keith Dominion Church 2830 NW 27th Avenue Ocala, FL 34475 (Formally Temple Of Faith). Public Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 from (10:00am until 1:00PM) & (4:00PM until 7:00PM) at Hadley-Brown Funeral Home.
