Obituary for Eugene C. Wajdowicz Eugene (Gene) Carroll Wajdowicz was called home to rest on December 12, 2018, at the age of eighty-five. Gene passed away peacefully, at his home in Wellington, Florida, with his family at his side. Gene has a heart of gold.
He was born to Polish immigrants, Caroline Bak and Stanley Wajdowicz on April 20, 1933, in Derby Connecticut. Gene led a life dedicated to his family and to service of country and church. He attended St. Michael’s elementary school and Derby High School in Derby, CT.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving eight years, three of those years being stationed in Germany during the Korean conflict. After Gene’s military service, he attended and graduated from the University of Bridgeport Connecticut with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering followed on later by two Masters Degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, one in Business Administration in Aerospace, the other in Aeronautical Engineering. He was employed at United Technologies for thirty-four years and a proud member of the United Technologies Retirees Club.
He was an avid sportsman, hunting with his brothers in his earlier years, and later fishing with his son Tom and grandchildren. He loved working in the yard and never shied away from a good polka. Cars were a hobby.
In his spare time he disassembled and reassembled car engines without a manual … just for fun. The cars actually worked better after Gene did his handiwork. He was his own engineer, a genuine “Mr. Fixit” around the house and yard.
In his later years, Gene spent time attending church socials , volunteering, and enjoying his four grandchildren. Gene was an active parishioner of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles and involved in many church causes and activities, including serving as usher and volunteer at the annual festival. Gene is a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Council 12376, and Knights of Columbus Assembly 2709 for Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church, Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
Gene led with a steady hand. He was an honorable and gentle man. He was intelligent, kind, loving, honest, hardworking, thoughtful, always doing and giving to others.
He inspired his children to be the best they could be and will always be a role model to his children and the best example of how to lead a life filled with decency, overflowing with integrity. He is a “super hero” to his grandchildren, and a gentle soul to all who knew him. Gene’s life is a legacy of love to his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his mother and father, Caroline Bak Wajdowicz and Stanley Wajdowicz, and by his brothers Roman, Stanley and Henry, and sisters Irene and Celia Hyjek. He is survived by his loving wife Loretta (Motel) Wajdowicz, who never left his side and whose blue eyes stole his heart nearly sixty years ago. He is also survived by and will be missed terribly by his children, Carol Fulton (John), Thomas Wajdowicz (Duana), Karen Wajdowicz/Wadowicz, Jean Marie O’Neil (Brendan) and his grandchildren Caroline Fulton, Alexander Fulton, Douglas O’Neil and Garrett O’Neil.
