Mr. Eugene “Gene” Simmons, 74, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday morning, July 4, 2018, in the comfort of his residence following a long and difficult battle with major illnesses. His last days were spent surrounded by loved ones, including his wife of 54 years, Diane Louise Deneen Simmons, whom he married February 1, 1964. Born November 9, 1943, in Petersburg, West Virginia, he was son of the late Lacy and Esther Mae Bergdoll Simmons.

He was a 1961 graduate of Old Town (MD) High School. Gene worked for Fairchild Aircraft, and Eastern Products, both of Hagerstown. He was a member of Cutting Edge Ministries, Hagerstown.

Woodmen of the World, Lodge 1, Fairplay; Conococheague Tribe 84 Improved Order of Red Men, Williamsport; and Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving, besides his wife, are his children, Tina Davis and husband Douglas, and Rick Simmons and companion Michele, all of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Steven Jacobs, Jr., Richie Morin, and Wyatt and Jesse Simmons; and great granddaughter, Callie King; as well as his siblings Loretta Miller and husband Lawrence of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, and Lacey Simmons and wife Barbara of Smithsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Eugene Howard Simmons; and granddaughter Brandy Jacobs.

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
