Obituary for Eugene R Danielson Eugene (Gene) Rea Danielson passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 85 on Nov. 1, 2018. Born in Visalia, California, Gene had been a resident of Cayucos for more than 48 years.

The son of Daniel E. and Grace Danielson, his younger years were spent in Tulare County with his family and siblings Neva and Ed. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida and St. Albans, New York. During this time he married his childhood sweetheart Marjorie (Vonnie) Ringler and they had their first child.

They moved back to California a few months later, where he reenlisted at the Marine Corps Air Station Blimp Base in Tustin, California. Later, he became a deputy sheriff for Riverside County, California. In 1958, he and his wife Vonnie moved to Kingsburg California where h and his siblings had inherited a large parcel of farmland and a home, which is now a historical landmark and had been built b his great Grandfather Frank Rea.

In 1969, Gene moved his wife and five kids to Cayucos, California men’s colony in SLO. In 1983, Gene and his wife and their youngest daughter moved to Sacramento for the next ten years. He went back to school and became a nurse, then enlisted in the Air Force reserves where he worked on medi-vac planes and served during Desert Storm.

He eventually retired from the Air Force as a staff sergeant and he and Vonnie moved back to Cayucos. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico in their RV for long periods at a time. He was an Elk for 50 years and belonged to the Catholic Church in Cayucos.

He was survived by his daughter Donna (Richard), his son David, his daughter Kristen (Mark), four grandchildren: Leslie, Brian, Marcus, and Matthew, and four great grandchildren: Hailey, Easton, Alyssa, and Zaylee. We will hold a graveside service on November 21st, at 11AM at the Cayucos Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to “Boys Town” at:secure.
