OBITUARY Eunice Audrey Christensen April 20, 1933 – September 8, 2018 Eunice Christensen first greeted the world as Eunice Audrey Cross on April 20, 1933. Her parents, Edward and Margaret Cross, lived on Chicago’s north side and Eunice would soon become big sister to Myrt. During her early years Ed’s carpentry skills moved the family from Chicago to Dyer, Indiana to Lansing, Illinois and finally to Seattle, Washington when Eunice was 16.
Eunice graduated from Lincoln High School in June 1951, the same night Wes Christensen asked her to be his wife. They were married March 8, 1952 at Calvary Temple, and lived in Seattle’s Lake City while Eunice continued her work at Eastman Kodak until daughters Dianne and Karen were born. In 1962 Wes was offered work in Pacifica, California, so the family moved to the Bay area where Eunice served as pastor’s secretary at the San Francisco Covenant Church.
By 1966 they moved back home to Seattle, and Eunice soon began her secretarial career in the Shoreline School District at Shorecrest High School and Lake Forest Park Elementary School, much loved by students and faculty alike until her retirement in 1995. In 1980 Eunice moved with Wes to Mill Creek, WA and created a peaceful place of welcome there for 37 years, happily tending her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren among her beloved roses and rhodies when she and Wes weren’t out exploring the San Juan Islands on board their troller Legacy. Eunice had just been out gardening when she fainted and fell March 20, 2017, suffering a hemorrhagic stroke.
From that unexpected day until her Lord Jesus walked her home to heaven September 8, 2018, Eunice faced untold physical challenges, confounding her medical team with an amazing will to live and the strength, grace, and peace only He could give. Throughout her life Eunice’s family came unquestionably first next to her love for Christ. She leaves us all with her legacy of unconditional love and her example to us to live graciously with each other whatever life brings.
Eunice is survived by Wes, her devoted husband of 66 years, daughters Dianne (and Steve) Bratz, Karen (and Craig) Anderson, sister Myrt (and Rod) Hawkinson, grandchildren Kellie (and Tyler) Sholdt, Jaimie (and Josh) Bresler, Jackson and Alexa Anderson, great-grandchildren Jayden, Parker, Jessica, Audrey, Josiah, and Jayne, extended family, church family, and countless friends. She has been deeply loved and will be dearly missed until we are reunited again in the Lord’s presence. A celebration service will be held in memory of Eunice on Saturday, October 6, 1:30 pm at Westminster Chapel, 13646 NE 24th St, Bellevue, WA 98005.
