Eunice’s Story Eternal Life It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. In giving, that we receive, And in dying that we are born to eternal life. Ms. Eunice Yvonne Gamble, one of nineteen children, was born March 9, 1933 in Greenville (Meriwether County), Georgia, to the late Albert, Sr. and Minnie Martin Barnes.
Our Heavenly Father, who allowed Eunice an earthly visit with us, saw fit to summon her home on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at her residence in New Site, Alabama In 1937, Eunice, along with her family moved to Alexander City, Alabama where she received her education in the public schools, and her Christian education as a member of Great Bethel Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. Milton Nunn, where she sang in one of the musical groups. Eunice married Robert L. Edison of Goodwater, Al immediately after graduating from high school in 1954.
They were blessed with three loving children: Jacqueline, Franita and Valerie. This union ended in divorce, and Eunice moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Eunice returned to Alexander City, Al during the early 1960’s, where she met LM Gamble of New Site, AL.
They were married and God saw fit to bless them with four beautiful children: Ray, Frankie, Angela and Lisa. She rededicated her life to Christ, and after being encouraged by her Mother-in Law, who she affectionately referred to as “Mama,” she united with the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in New Site, Al.
where she shared her gifts serving as leader of the ushers, member of the Pastor’s Aide and one of the Church Mothers. Eunice worked for more than thirty years in various positions, including but not limited to, Production Cover Seamstress at New Site Manufactory and Russell Corporation where she retired June 28, 1995. Eunice relocated to Baltimore, MD where she resided for many years, prior to returning to Alexander City, Al.
Eunice was a remarkable cook who enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. During her leisure time she shopped, watched football, and designing art for nails. Due to her love for fashion, she was often admired for her lavish outfits and shoes.
Eunice was predeceased by her husband LM, parents, seventeen siblings, aunts, uncles, grand-children, nieces, nephews, a son-in-law and cousins. Eunice leaves to cherish her memory Seven children: Jacqueline (Wash) Girven, Franita Kelly of Goodwater, Al, Valerie Edison, Alexander City, AL, Ray (Irma) Barnes, Baltimore, MD, Angela Gamble, Lisa (Kim) Gamble of New Site, AL and Frankie (Aaron) Hackett of Fredericksburg, VA. One sister: Dr. Minnie C. (John L) Slaughter.
Four sisters-in-law: Ms. Annie Gamble and Ms. Eloise Robbins both of Manassas, VA, Mrs. Sheila (Clarence) Edwards of Alexander City, AL, Mrs. Levis Gamble and Mrs. Clara Holley all of Alexander City, AL .
