Eva Kathleen Slater, 89, North Manchester, Indiana passed away at 9:17 a.m. on June 16, 2018 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, Indiana. Born to Sherman and Iva (Montel) Rhoades on April 13, 1929 in Liberty Mills, Indiana, Eva was one of five children. In 1947 she graduated from Chester High School.

One night at Louie’s Kandy Kitchen she met a young man named Donald Slater who asked to drive her home. On December 6, 1947, they were married in the Eel River Church of the Brethren, where they were both members. Donald passed away on July 30, 2004.

The two were married for 56 years before his passing. Not only were Eva and Donald married, but they also worked together. For 25 years, Eva worked with Donald as a clerk and deputy assessor of Jackson Township, Kosciusko County.

After working for Jackson Township, Eva went on to work for and eventually retire from Timbercrest Senior Living Community, where she worked as a hostess. For several years Eva and Donald did a lot of very artistic and beautiful photography. She loved different kinds of flowers but her favorite hobby was making scrapbooks.

Most of all she loved her family. Eva will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She always made sure every year that her grandchildren got a gift from her.

Eva could always be seen with a smile on her face and loved being at Timbercrest and with the people there. The loving memory of Eva Kathleen Slater will be survived by her son; Greg (Rita) Slater, North Manchester; two daughters, Sue Anne (Jerry) Smart, Wolcottville, Indiana and Jerilyn Burgess, Minden, Nevada; one brother, Dorsey Rhoades, Kokomo, Indiana; one sister Leanna Johnson, North Manchester, Indiana; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Iva Rhoades and two brothers, Wayne Rhoades and Delbert Rhoades.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, Indiana from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, following the conclusion of the visitation. Pastor Roger Eberly will officiate. Burial will be at Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, 2507 East State Road 14, Silver Lake, Indiana.
