She was a caring, generous soul whose faith and family were always the most important things in her life. She shared her love of family with her nine brothers and sisters, her in-laws, and her rather large extended family from the Medine, Cox, Guidry and Gonzales families.

She gave of herself selflessly and tirelessly to her friends and family for her entire life, even as she fought courageously through her own battle with cancer. Helping others defined her earthly life and her family takes great comfort in knowing that she is now sharing in God’s heavenly reward for her. Evelyn was the oldest daughter to the late Allen and Emma Medine of White Castle, Louisiana.

She was a devoted wife of 46 years to the late Willie Anthony “Billy” Cox, of Pierre Part, and she spent the last several years of their life together caring for Billy as he suffered and ultimately died of complications from Alzheimer’s. She was a native of White Castle and graduated from White Castle High School in 1959. She served many roles over her lifetime, including as a homemaker, physician’s assistant, secretary, salesperson, and bookkeeper.

She was also a lifetime member of the White Castle Jaynes, among other charitable and service organizations. Evelyn was called to heaven on January 1, 2019 after a long batter with cancer. She is survived by her three children, Dwayne “Dac” (Tracy) of Plaquemine, Ricky (Stacey) of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Charlene Gautreau (Alden) of Gonzales; her seven grandchildren, Andy Ewen (Kristin), Eric Ewen (Devin Ruiz), Codi Cox Ross (Mike), Cayne Cox (Victoria), Preston Cox, Madison Cox, and Kaitlyn Cox; and one great-grandson, Mackenzie “Mack” Ross.

She is also survived by her brothers, Curtis Medine, Sr., Calvin Medine, Sr., Donald Medine, Sr., S.J. Medine and by her sister, Diane Medine Boone; sisters-in-law, Georgiana Cox and Joan Cox; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen Louis Medine, Sr. and Emma Gonzales Medine; mother-in-law, Euphemie Guidry Cox, Brent J. Cox, Sr.; brothers, Andrew Medine, Sr., Allen Medine, Jr., and Gerald Medine, Sr.; sister, Shirley Medine and brother-in-law, Brent J. Cox, Jr. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in White Castle on Friday, January 4, 2019, from 9:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Rev.
