OBITUARY Evelyn Crum Vance Turek June 28, 1931 – December 31, 2018 Evelyn was born June 28, 1931 to Jessie Lee Crum and Lois Beatrice Pritchett in St. James, Phelps County, Missouri and was the fifth child born of 16 children. The early years of Evelyn’s childhood were spent all over the United States picking fruit and doing other types of labor they could find during the depression. Evelyn only had a fifth grade education because she spent most of her time babysitting her siblings.

Due to the fact that her father was involved in various seasonal harvest operations in Oregon and Idaho, the family moved to Baker, Oregon where she met and later married Bohn Vance on February 28, 1949. Bohn came with a six year old daughter, Martha, that Evelyn raised and loved as her own. Evelyn and Bohn had five children together; Nancy (Bob) Barowsky, Nickie (Alan) Scharbrough, Barbara (Jim) Barger, Robert Vance and Julia Probst.

Evelyn and Bohn made their home in Ontario, Oregon and lived there until moving to Fruitland, Idaho in 1974. In the early years, Evelyn worked in the Produce sheds in Ontario every fall to buy school supplies for her kids. She cleaned houses for many years and that’s where she discovered a powerful cleaning aid called the Electrolux Vacuum.

Evelyn liked the vacuum so much, she researched where it was made and found a company in Boise, Idaho where she went to work selling their machines in 1966 after she obtained her GED. She was so successful at selling vacuums, bags and supplies that she won a trip to New York City as a VIP for the Electrolux Corporation. Evelyn had eight grandchildren, Angie (Jim) Ashley, Vance (Nicki) Barowsky, Greg Justice, Tim (Susie) Justice, Jana (Nate) Mitchell, Katie (Josh) Zielinski, Shay Vance and Kayla Vance.

Evelyn had seven great grandchildren, Trevor and Zack Barowsky, Josh and Iaasic Justice, Connor Colter, Jacx Vance and Alyce Zielinski; and numerous nieces and nephews. After Bohn passed away in August 1995, Evelyn started attending the senior dances from all over the area. She loved to dance and would encourage her friends and relatives to go to the dances with her.

She met Raymond Turek at one of the dances and they were married on September 4, 1998. Evelyn and Ray bought a new home in Nampa, Idaho where she was joined by Ray’s children and treated them as her own; Janet (Willy) Goltz, Judy Mitchel and Doug Turek. Evelyn also enjoyed all of her new family’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Raymond passed away on March 2, 2009. Evelyn lived in Nampa by herself until November 2013 and then moved to Payette, Idaho to be closer to her daughter, Nickie. Evelyn loved the Payette Senior Citizen Center and attended the dances and lunches.

She especially loved riding on the Payette Senior bus to and from the center as well as enjoying all the activities. Her daughters, Martha Woodward, Nancy Barowsky; her granddaughter, Angie Ashley; her husbands, Bohn Vance and Raymond Turek; and all but five of her siblings preceded her in death. The family would like to thank Darrin, Deena, Cecelie, Melissa, Courtney, Kathy, Cindy, Mary, Christy and Annette who cared for her at Royal Villa.

The family would also like to thank Cheryl Farley who gave mom wonderful care while she was in the hospital at St. Al’s in Ontario. Most of all, the family would like to thank Heart ‘n Home Hospice for her care. A private family celebration of life will be held in June 2019.
