Evelyn L. Nelson, age 84, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 following a brief illness. She was born May 25, 1934 in Troy Township, Iowa County, Iowa to Harry and Laura (Tromerhauser) Rathjen. Evelyn married Robert J. Nelson on December 12, 1961.

The Nelsons lived in Shelby until 2007. Dr. Nelson passed away on December 18, 2014. Mrs. Nelson attended Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Beth (Gene) Reamer and Stacey McEwen; grandchildren, Emily (Joe) Hardy, Natalie Reamer, Caroline Reamer, Ian, Jack and Spencer McEwen; her brothers, Keith (Kathleen) Rathjen and Marvin (Bev) Rathjen; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Steve McEwen; her brothers, Orrin Rathjen and Orville Rathjen; and her sisters, Velma Fetzer and Thelma Naughton. Visitation is Saturday, September 22nd beginning at 12 Noon at Calvary Baptist Church, 1070 Quarterline Road in Muskegon.

The memorial service will follow at the church on Saturday, September 22nd at 1 pm with Pastor Keith Sandison officiating. Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church, 1070 Quarterline Road, Muskegon, MI 49442 or Harbor Hospice, 1050 W. Western Avenue, Suite 400, Muskegon, MI 49441.
