Evelyn Mae Rulla , May 14, 1926 — May 04, 2019

Evelyn Mae Rulla, 92, of Beatrice passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. She was born May 14, 1926 in Beatrice to Herman and Minnie (McCullough) Wells. Evelyn lived in Beatrice her entire life and attended Beatrice Senior High School.

She apprenticed as a hairdresser for one year at Elizabeth Lash’s Beauty Salon and worked for a year at Elizabeth’s. She then bought the beauty shop in the Hotel Paddock on August 1, 1945 and was there for 24 years. Evelyn then owned and worked at shops at 115 N. 5th for 23 years and 212 N. 5th for 21 years.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, playing cards, traveling which included places like Mexico and Africa. Evelyn played pitch at the Senior Center of Beatrice weekly and went for coffee with friends weekly right up until she fell at home and broke her wrist in February. Evelyn was a member of the First Christian Church of Beatrice, Federated Women’s Club, Auxiliary member of Norman-Bitting Post #27 of the American Legion and Geddes-Thober Post #1077 of the Veterans of Foreign War, Beatrice Eagles Aerie # 531.

Survivors include her step-son, IraPaul “Butch” Rulla of Dunnellon, FL; two nieces, Beverly (Nickeson) Fortner of Lincoln and Shirley (Nickeson) Schmale of Beatrice; one nephew, Larry Johnson of Ashland; grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Herman & Minnie (McCullough) Wells; husband, Earl of Beatrice; two sisters, Cecil Johnson & Faye Nickeson of Beatrice; two nephews, Robert Nickeson of Lincoln and Boyd Johnson of Ashland; one niece, Charlotte Williams of Wymore. Evelyn will be buried beside her husband, Earl in the Veterans Section at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.

The were married July 1, 1960 and Earl died in 1989. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Pastor David Bigley officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.

The body will lie in state on Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to First Christian Church of Beatrice. www.
