Ezra Eugene “Mac” McHenry, 89, went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 2019. He was born November 16, 1929 in Linn, West Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for Consolidated Freightways as a diesel mechanic.

Eugene was a member of the Church of Christ for over 63 years. He bowled in the Senior Men’s Bowling League in Springfield and was an avid reader of westerns and sports. He loved sports, coaching, fishing, the outdoors, card games, and going to the Hartville Flea Market.

Above all Eugene loved his family and just being with people. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Archie W. and Ethel Mae (nee Carr) McHenry; brothers, Junior, Charles, Jackie, and Larry McHenry; and sisters, Sue Shoulder, Virginia Carte and Marie McHenry. He is survived by the “love of his life” whom he married on April 28, 1950, Evelyn (nee Shackleford) McHenry; children, Ron (Brenda) McHenry, Susan (Gary) Shellhorn, and Paul (Michelle) McHenry; brother, Archie Wayne (Naomi) McHenry; grandchildren, Jason McHenry, Joshua McHenry, Justin McHenry, David (Tiffany) McHenry, Andrew McHenry and Patrick McHenry; many relatives and lifelong friends from Consolidated Freightways whom he would meet for breakfast.

Our family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Mulberry Gardens Memory Care and Heartland Hospice for their love and care of our father. Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. , Akron on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with service beginning at 1 p.m., Pastor Robert Seymour officiating.

Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Association, in memory of Eugene. Donations may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association 225 N. Michigan Ave.
