Farrel’s Obituary On May 7th, 2019 our loving father Farrel Dale Williams, surrounded by his loving family, passed away at his home in Malad City, Idaho. Farrel was born on August 18, 1939 in Malad, Idaho firstborn son of Farrel Williams and Mary Emma Williams. He was raised one of seven children in Holbrook ,Idaho and later moved to Malad, Idaho where he attended Malad High School.
In 1956 at 17 years old he inlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served 3 ½ years as an electrician who ran and fixed projectors on the Navy Ships. Upon his return he met and married his sweetheart, Ruth Eileen Williams, on August 25,1961. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple.
They made their home in many places but eventually settled west of Malad in the St. John area. Their they raised 3 sons and 2 daughters. Their door was always open to family and friends and dad would always say “if you leave hungry its your own dam fault”.
Farrel worked at Thiokol as a boiler technician and in 1963 he started Mountain Boy Fence Company. Along with his sons and family built fence all over the old west in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Nevada and Montana and today many of his fences still stand. Dad was a true cowboy and never went without his cowboy hat, boots and pliers on his belt.
He was revered as the “Mighty Hunter” as he was a skilled hunter, fisherman, trapper and loved the outdoors. He knew every mountain and fishing hole like the back of his hand and ran trap lines throughout the Malad and Marsh Valleys. He loved to take his family to Resovior lake and fish along the Big Hole River.
Farrel also was expert champion at pitching horseshoes and it was one of his favorite pastimes with his friends and family. At home he was always reading something, loved Louis Lamour western novels, Charles M. Russel Paintings and very knowledgeable about History and loved learning new things. Because of his love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing he earned the nickname “Fudd” and was also called “Mose” by his younger brothers as he was the oldest and a natural leader.
His brothers were never far and they were the best of friends. Farrel also loved to cook and was great with dutch oven cooking. People would come miles for his dutch oven beer battered fish and mutton which was also a long time tradition at family reunions.
Farrel is survived by his five children, DeRay (Lynn) Williams of California, DeVon (Carol) Williams of Utah, Trisa (Scott) Murray of Malad, Jody Williams of Malad, Erica (Justin) Giles of Malad, twenty three grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Mike Williams; four sisters Marylyn (Rees) Roundy, Rosalee Lamb, Julie (Lamonte) Waldron, and Jeanetta Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and a grandson, Luke Farrel Murray.
