She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 14, 1939, the daughter of the late Fred Harris and the late Della Hopkins Briscoe. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Charles Johnson; and the father of her children, Donald Leon Chastain.
