Surrounded by his family, Fermin Bermudez Garcia, age 80, passed away May 8, 2019 in Porterville. Fermin was born March 13, 1939 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Atanacio and Maria (Bermudez) Garcia. He was the youngest son of 12 siblings and the last surviving member of his family.

Fermin married Ophelia Patricia Duran on February 11, 1961 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Tipton, California. Together they made their home in Pico Rivera, California. They had four children, Adan (wife Maggie), Angelita (husband Ruben), Andres and Ana (husband Dwayne).

Fermin was a hard working man who always placed the needs of his beloved wife Ophelia and their children first. In 1989 he retired from General Motors after 20 years of service and soon after began a second career in storytelling to his grandchildren, Ray, Tone and DJ, whom he spent many hours with. His storytelling soon reached the remaining grandchildren when they would visit.

And most recently, he was relaying those same stories to his great grandchildren, Mason, Opie and Cooper. Fermin was a devoted husband to his wife Ophelia until her death in August 2018. He was also preceded in death by their son, Andres (Andy) in April 2017.

Fermin will be greatly missed by his family and friends but his legacy will carry on for many years. Recitation of the Holy Rosary for Fermin will take place on Wednesday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m. with Mass of the Resurrection celebrated Thursday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
