Fernando (Fred) Mengual, 88, of Berlin, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, with his beloved wife Mary (Ballester) and loving family and at his side. He was born Jan. 14, 1931 in Avon to Juan B. and Rosario (Sastre) Mengual.

Fred proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and was employed as a machinist at Goss & De Leeuw Machine Co. in Kensington until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time at the beach with his family and cherished dogs, Princess and Mandy. Fred is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: John and Mary Mengual, of East Berlin, two daughters and a son-in-law: Susan and John Oliver of Old Lyme and Laurie Menard of Cromwell; six grandchildren: John and Kim Mengual and Missy Bernadel, Michael and Matthew Oliver, and Louis Menard; six great grandchildren: Ben, Maya, Alexandra, Isla, Morris and Matthew; a sister: Rosita Serrano and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to call at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington, on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, from 9:00 – 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul Church, 485 Alling Street, Kensington. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Paul School, 461 Alling St., Kensington, CT 06037.
