OBITUARY Fernando “Tin” Torres Berrios March 8, 1953 – September 1, 2018 Fernando “Tin” Torres, an Army veteran and devoted brother and uncle who loved deeply and quietly, died September 1, 2018 at the age of 65. He taught many compassion and selflessness through his unassuming acts of kindness. At more than 6 feet tall, Fernando could be intimidating to some of his nephews and nieces until his gentle approach shined through: His earnest interest in the sports practice or debate tournament, the way he was the only person who could put earrings on his young niece’s jagged ear lobes without making her grimace, the manner in which babies calmed when he held them in his arms.

While he never had biological children, he was a father to his niece and nephew who were lucky to receive his unconditional love. He taught them the value of being kind to strangers, that actions are more valuable than words, and that music brings us all together. He will be missed deeply by all of his nieces and nephews, including Luis Alberto Orozco and Zahira Torres, and his siblings Hilda Luz Jara, Maria Virgen Mercado, Luis Felipe Torres, Carmen Lidia Torres, Maria Elisa Garcia, Maria Margarita Flores, Maria Mercedes Torres, Jose Norberto Torres, Sara Arellano, Angela Torres, Diana Ceniceros, Dalila Torres and Rosario Orozco.

He is preceded in death by his parents Carmen Torres Berrios and Modesto Torres. Funeral mass will be at noon Saturday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
