Funeral for Flint C. Gillespie, Sr., 93, of Hillsboro will be Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Parkway Funeral Home, at 2:00 PM with Bro. Daniel Gray and Bro. Brent Gillespie officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the funeral home. Mr. Gillespie, who died Friday, October 26, 2018, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born October 24, 1925, to Percy W. Gillespie and Lucy Mae Rutherford.

He was a member of and a Sunday school teacher of Independent Church. He served as the Director of Counseling for the Lawrence County School System. He was a WWII Army Veteran and served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam.

He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moulton Lions Club and a board member of the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama and many other affiliations. He was a member of the Retired teachers association and Lawrence County Historical Society. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Hambone Gillespie, 2 sisters Myrtle Bell and Opal Gillespie.

Survivors include: his wife of 67 years – Gladys Gillespie 2 sons – Flint C. (Benna) Gillespie, Jr. and Mark (Kathy) Gillespie 2 daughters – Gwen (Alan) Wade and Cheryl (Rod) Sawyer 2 brothers – Wimpy (Unita) Gillespie, Billy Gillespie and James Gillespie 3 sisters – Christine Guarisco, Maryann (Jack) Myers and Peggy (Harold) Shelton Sister-in-law – Margaret Gillespie 9 grand children – Brad Wade, Mark A. Gillespie, Brandi Rose, Jill Newman, Shaun Gillespie, Lauren Bryant, Dave Gillespie, Ryan Sawyer and Brent Gillespie 14 great grandchildren. many beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
