Flora’s Obituary OBITUARY February 16, 1943- March 12, 2019 Flora Mae Deloris Robinson Gray Sunrise was February 16, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Ella Mae Robinson of Fairhope, AL. Sunset for Mrs. Gray was Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

She was blessed with 76 years of life and love. Visitation will be Friday, March 15th, from 6 PM to 8 PM, and the Celebration of Life Services will take place on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 1 PM. Both services will take place at Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, AL.

Interment will take place at the Gray Family Cemetery. As a young girl at Baldwin County Training School, Flora played basketball and was a percussionist. Flora’s love of music carried over into adulthood.

She spent many hours playing her piano and singing her favorite hymn- “Precious Lord” to her family. Flora was not only musically inclined but she had a huge green thumb. She adored green plants and colorful flowers.

She enjoyed riding her lawn mower, cutting her lawn, working in her flower bed, and tending to her potted plants. Never one to sit still, Flora enjoyed visiting the sick in the nursing home, working, cooking and delivering meals to others. One of her favorite pastimes was watching the NBA.

Always up for an adventure, she loved to travel and spend time with her family. Flora met the love of her life, the late Jake Gray, of Sulligent, AL, while they were students at the Alabama A & M University in Normal, AL. They were married on June 1, 1964.

Flora was a devoted and loving wife and primary caregiver to Jake, until his passing. They shared 43 years of loving marriage. To this union was born, three daughters: Denise (Ken) Dupree, Veronica (Charles) Jackson, and Miranda (Abraham) Clark.

She was called Grandma by Britni and Bria Dupree, Chelsea Jackson, and Abraham Clark Jr. Flora taught English, Typing, and PE at the former Todd High School, in Vernon, AL. After school desegregation she went on to work in the business office at Aide West in Vernon, AL and served as an Instructor of Business Education for an Adult Work Readiness Program in Fayette, AL. As a women of faith, Flora attended St. James Missionary Baptist Church and Westside Church of Christ.

She and Jake owned and operated Sulligent Handy Mart for several years. As an A &M Bulldog, she enjoyed the fanfare of the Magic City Classic and reconnecting with friends and family every year. Flora was also an active member of the Sulligent community, who attended city council meetings to advocate for community improvements and encouraged others to do the same.

Mrs. Gray is also survived by a half-sister, Mary Joyce Miller. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and loved ones. Condolences and special memories may be shared with the family at: www.
