Floyd [W5OXK] L. Bowman, age 81, of Aztec, NM died peacefully at home on Sept. 28. Floyd was born in Goodrich, KS and was a graduate of Parker High School, Parker, KS.

Floyd was an electrician by profession who enjoyed 22 years of retirement; as an avid amateur HAM radio operator, (the go-to person), Floyd influenced many others to become HAM operators. He was an ARRL volunteer examiner, and very involved in the San Juan County EmComm. While living in Colorado, Floyd worked as a restoration carpenter; he did homeowner remodeling, was a trail cook for guided elk hunting trips, and worked for the Silverton, Colorado police department.

Through the years Floyd had many hobbies: model railroading with scaled landscapes, indoor & outdoor gardening, raising rabbits & pigs, macramé, silversmithing, rock and mineral collecting, carpentry, woodcarving, making musical instruments, remodeling homes, home landscaping, fishing, square dancing, and homemade beer and wines. A loving husband and father, Floyd was married 60 years to his wife, Barbara [WBØVUO] Beemont Bowman. Together they have 4 children: Floyd (Charlene) Bowman Jr. of Gallup, NM; Rochelle (Troy) Dickerson of Hopkinsville, KY; Cowan [N5QDH] (Heather [KE5YMS]) Bowman of Farmington, NM; and Gayla (Shawn) Oglesby of Owensboro, KY.

They have 8 grandchildren: Paul, Angela, Carmen, William [KE5YMR], Erik, Alexander, Myra, and Noah. They also have 8 great-grandchildren. Floyd is preceded in death by his parents Roy S. Bowman and Eva Shafer Bowman.

There are four surviving siblings: Christina (Robert) Turner of Salina, KS; Everett [N7ZRT] Bowman of Garnett, KS; Carl [WØCWB] (Alma) Bowman of Mound City, KS, and Keith [N7TRN] Bowman of Union Gap, WA. Online obituary located at www.
