Frances Kary Geiger, 93, of Bismarck, passed away May 6, 2019 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Jarad Wolf as celebrant.

Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM and a Women of the Moose ritual at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Frances was born December 10, 1925 at her home in Fallon, North Dakota to Christ and Rose (Franck) Schmidt. She attended grade school at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Fallon, ND and then graduated from Mandan High School in 1945. She worked as a county school teacher at St. Anthony, ND, at A.W. Lucas in Bismarck, a data processor at Gamble Robinson in Mandan, with her husband, Joseph, at Joe’s Bar in Mandan, then finished her work career with 25 years at Med Center One Clinic in Bismarck as a medical receptionist.

She retired in 1988. Frances married Joseph Kary in 1948 in Fallon, ND. They had five children, Arnold Kary of Minot, ND, Susan (Jim) Gierman of Minot, ND, Nancy (David) Stephan of Detroit Lakes, MN, Leon (Annette) Kary of Mandan, ND, and Joseph (Maureen) Kary of Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren, Lisa, Dani, Steve, Jaime, Jesse, Jonathan, Maria, Elizabeth, Rachael, Mitchell, Michael, MacIntyre; 19 great-grandchildren, Colin, Ryder, Landen, Brenley, Gavin, Mya, Alexander, Marshall, Mason, Cali, Brooklyn, Hanna, Ella, Emaline, Grant, Ezra, Hudson, Hayes, and Hatton.

In 1994 she married John Geiger and added 3 children, Doreen (Tim) Bumb of Mandan, ND, Ken (Connie) Geiger of Mandan, ND, and Donna (Dave) Schaab of Hazen, ND; 9 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren were added to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kary; parents, Christ and Rose Schmidt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rueben and Margaret Haas, Paul and Betty Dulski, Tony and Pauline Kary, Ralph and Rose Kary, Harry and Rose Kary, Leo and Rose Dinius, Tony and Monica Boehm, Al and Ann Kary, Jack and Luella Kary, George, John, and Matt Kary. She is survived by her husband, John; her sister and sisters-in-law, Verna Kary, Frances Kary, and Lillian Kary who all presently live in Mandan and Bismarck.

Frances was a proud member of the Christian Mothers, Holy Rosary Society, Prayer Warriors, a Charter Member of the Women of the Moose, a Cub Scout Den Mother, Rosary prayer leader at St. Joseph’s parish and various volunteer works. A heartfelt thank you to the St. Gabriel’s Community and Sanford Health 4th floor staff for their excellent care for their mother.
