Obituary for Frances Colyer Dateline: Hoosick Falls, NY Frances Stewart Colyer (Fran), 82, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Kathleen (Chateau) Stewart, born on July 27, 1936 in Schenectady. Fran grew up on her parent’s fruit and dairy farm on Goode Street, formerly the Wheeler farm.

She was a devoted wife to Richard Colyer (Dick), mother and grandmother. Fran took care of the home and many of the chores so that most weekends the whole family was free to have fun outdoors. In the early years, it included a station wagon full of kids; including cousins and neighborhood kids who were ready for an adventure.

In the later years it included their children and grandchildren. She liked to remind us that she is a farmer’s daughter and second cousin to Donald Stewart, founder of the Stewart’s Ice Cream. Which is, as she explained, why she was always up for ice cream – vanilla.

In her later years, her brother Dick would kindly restock her freezer with ice cream so she always had her ice cream. Fran also enjoyed collecting colonial period antiques with her husband. They enjoyed the search and talking with others who enjoyed antiques as well.

Their love for antiques continued to grow, so much so that they decided to purchase a dismantled colonial house and rebuilt it on Charlton Road in Ballston Spa. Fran and Dick were proud of their home and antique collection. They enjoyed showing their home and antique collection to all.

Fran also enjoyed tending to her beautiful flowerbeds that surrounded their home. Fran is survived by her devoted children, Peter S. Colyer of La Jolla, CA and Margaret (Randolph) Kristel of Indianapolis, IN; her loving brothers Richard “Dick” (Anna Mae) Stewart and David (Kathleen) Stewart, and her two dearly loved grandchildren, Mark Richard Colyer and Blake Ellen Colyer. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank Molly and Eric, their family and entire staff at Pine Valley Home for taking such wonderful care of our Franny this past year. All are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019. Interment will be at a later date in the family plot at Briggs Cemetery.

Donations in Fran’s memory may be made to The Community Hospice Foundation.
