Obituary for Frank G. Furcich Frank G. Furcich died peacefully Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Mesa AZ. Frank was born May 16, 1929 in Argo IL, son of the late Jerry and Mary J. Furcich, nee Jordan, and brother to the late John (Vera) and Joseph (Jean) Furcich. He is survived by his loving wife Mary D. Furcich, nee Doyle.
Frank will be greatly missed by his children, Steven (Erika) Furcich, Lorraine Arvin, Sheila (Darius) Hensley; stepchildren, the late Nathan (Mary Shell) Shockey, Melissa Shockey, Victor Shockey, Therese (John) Dyer, Steven (Tracy) Shockey; grandchildren, Alex and Justin Furcich; Ryan, Michelle, and Lindsay Arvin; Marissa, Jared and Adriana Baysinger; Patrick and Emily Shockey; Angelica Meade and Rio McFarland; Christopher Shockey; Elizabeth, Rayanne, Nathan and Maryalice Shockey; and beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Frank attended elementary and high school in Argo IL. Following military service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois and a master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago.
He spent his early career as a teacher in the Cook County schools, and later as a financial planner for Merrill Lynch. Frank was a lifelong musician, passionate about music, playing in orchestras and bands for over 70 years. He was a member of the Chicago Musicians Union and the Phoenix Musicians Union, as well as a life member of the Union League Club of Chicago.
Frank was an avid runner, hiker, mountain climber and swimmer. Visitation Friday April 20 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th St. just West of Harlem).
Funeral Saturday April 21 at 9:30 a.m. from Foran Funeral Home to St. Blase Church, Summit IL. Mass at 10 a.m. Interment with Military Honors at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation and the Paralyzed Veterans of America would be appreciated.
