Frank Lario, 85, of Speers Hill, Charleroi, Pa. passed away on November 30,2018 at Select Specialty Hospital in McKeesport, he was surrounded by his family He was a member of Mary Mother of the Church parish in Charleroi. He had previously been a member of the church in which he was married in, St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic church in Donora He was born in Donora Pa.

on February 27, 1933 where he learned the value of a hard day’s work, first with odd jobs as a teenager then as a delivery truck driver, a postal worker, then, a job for American Steel & Wire He then served honorably in the Korean War as a member of the US Army’s heavy mortar company 27th infantry regiment, known as “Wolfhounds” He attended California State College (now California University of PA) where he received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree. He later attained a Master of Education degree from the California State College. Mr. Lario began a long teaching career first at Greensburg-Salem High School, then continued for most of his career until his retirement at Chartiers Valley High School where he touched & shaped the lives of many students.

Teaching was his greatest passion and proudest achievement. He enjoyed sharing a story at the Charleroi Sportsmen Club & bowled many years in the Rotolo’s Bowling League, and was proud when his team won the championship trophy. He was also a long time member of the Elks.

For many years he enjoyed hunting & fishing, especially in the Laurel Mountains where he spent many seasons at his summer home at Whipkey Dam. He was a student of history and had a special interest in the American Civil War, he regularly attended roundtables learning something new every time. He enjoyed the sweet silence of boxing, never missed a Steelers game and a Penguin’s win always brought a smile to his face.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him as he always had a story or wisdom to share. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Charlene Pardiny Lario of Charleroi, his son Dave Lario, his daughter Tanya Lario Kraft of Charleroi, his granddaughter Jessica Lehr & her husband Adam, his great-grandchildren Noah & Blake of Charleroi. Surviving also is his brother Ed Lario & his wife Janet of Rostraver Pa.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mary and father Mike Lario. Friends will be received Tuesday, December 4th from 4 to 8pm in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 226 Fallowfield Ave. , Charleroi.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Father Kevin Dominik at Mary, Mother of the Church, 7th & Washington Ave. , Charleroi on Wednesday December 5th at 10am. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.

He had a passion for the native peoples of this country and had donated many years to St. Labre Indian School, (stlabre.org) where in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.
