Obituary for Frank Oaxaca First Gunner Frank Chavira Oaxaca, 97, died peacefully in Fresno, CA on April 23rd, 2018. A veteran of World War II, stationed at U.S. Naval base in Subic Bay, Philippines with the 105th battalion. Gnr Frank was born on December 17, 1920 in New Mexico.

In 1940, he joined the armed forces and was assigned to the Marine Corps base camp in Lejeune, NC. After graduating from special training in 1924, he was assigned to the 105th Battalion and deployed to the Philippine front in the Philippines as a Private. He was wounded in 1943 and awarded the Purple Heart.

Frank was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving father. He married Inez Dominguez in Fresno, CA in 1947. A natural at the pool table, a night club owner called “The Latin Quarter”, and Labor Contractor for most of his life, however, he’d usually be found at home rooting for the Oakland A’s (or as he called them – the “Aces”) and making his favorite dish of Chorizo, Eggs, and Potatoes.

Later in life, Frank always wore a white dress shirt, khaki pants, and fedora that he’d always tip to any female walking his direction. A gift giver by nature, his grandchildren enjoyed the holidays around him and would always ask “Who’s this? ” in a dark tone when he’d call on the telephone.

He is survived by his sons and daughters, Jenny Elwell, Frank Oaxaca Jr., Thomas Oaxaca and Deborah Oaxaca; his six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Frank Oaxaca please visit our Sympathy Store. Upcoming Events Visitation 2018 MAY 1.
