Fred (Frederick) Perry Ansel, 62, died December 3, 2018 after a period of declining health. He grew up in New Lexington, Ohio; graduated from New Lexington High School where he participated in a variety of team sports including football and track. He served in the US Army for 3 years.

He studied at several colleges including the University of Florida. He was a stock car driver for a number of years in the early 90s. He raced car number 39 “The Outlaw” at tracks in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

He later moved to the mountains of North Carolina and held a variety of jobs at several car dealerships including a 12-year tenure at Hunter Chevrolet in Hendersonville. He also worked as an insurance appraiser in the Hendersonville area. His interests included art, Gators football and NASCAR.

He will be remembered for his good sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents Edith Day and Wayne Ansel and brother Jim. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Libby, and older brother Dick Ansel of Douglas, Georgia; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law: Lesa and Charles Layno of Greensboro, NC; Cindy and John Cantrell of Kingsport, TN.

He leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins. He especially enjoyed his time playing cards with nephew Nick Cantrell and niece Peyton Cantrell of Tennessee. A Celebration of Life will be held January 19, 2pm at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, Flat Rock, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pinecrest Presbyterian or the National Kidney Foundation.
