OBITUARY Frederick Anthony Labasan February 1, 1956 – November 26, 2018 Frederick “Rick” Labasan passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018. Rick was born on February 1, 1956 to Lloyd and Magdalena Labasan in Haiku, Hawaii. He was the youngest of four children, one older sister Josephine “Josie” Steltenpohl (John), and two older brothers, the late Joseph (Phyllis) and Lloyd Jr (Judy).

Rick attended Maui High School, where he played football. He then moved to Portland, Oregon to attend University of Portland, and graduated in 1979. During his time at UP, he started his long career at UPS.

He spent many years delivering packages and greeting his customers in Multnomah Village. Rick married Lynn in 1986, and they started their lives in the Multnomah Village area. Rick worked hard to support his family, sending both Stephanie and Rachel to St. John Fisher for elementary and middle school.

He was a friendly face at SJF, volunteering to setup Christmas decorations at the church, refereeing CYO basketball and football games, or attending fundraisers throughout the years. In 2007, Rick retired from UPS after 30 years, and spent his time bowling and golfing during the week. His life-long passion for sports led him to become a guest services team member for the Hillsboro Hops (baseball), Portland Trailblazers (basketball), and Portland Timbers and Thorns (soccer) teams.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Magdalena, and his brother, Joseph. Rick is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lynn; daughters, Stephanie (Jay) Brink of California and Rachel of Portland; as well as several nieces and nephews. Many family, friends and coworkers will miss his kind and loving heart, and his unforgettable bright smile.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, at the St. John Fisher Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund or the OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute.
