He attended schools in AISD and RRISD. He graduated from Westwood High school where he lettered in Basketball and Speech. He attended Texas State University, which was Southwest Texas at that time.

He served in the U.S. Army as a cook. Upon completing his tour of duty, he moved to Houston, Texas, and began his career in food services. He particularly enjoyed working at several prominent local catering companies.

While working at Jackson and Company, he had the pleasure to serve at parties hosted by Barbara Bush, Joe Jamail and George Foreman. He loved creating culinary masterpieces and helping parties become memorable events. He worked in every capacity from decorating to food prep and bartending.

He had stints at Minute Maid Park and loved serving people who adored his Houston Astros. He served many in private boxes at the NRG (formerly Reliant) Stadium. He went on to work as a Commercial Driver for some of the most reputable companies in Texas.

He also worked for Harris County. He worked at Neil’s Bahr in his beloved EaDo. His most recent employment was with Cardinal Catering where he shared his expertise.

Gabriel was a hard worker but his passion was Houston Sports, live Texas Music (Willie and Lukas Nelson, Gary Clark Jr.) and his friends and family. He loved his Astros since he was a child and was beyond thrilled when they finally won the World Series. He was a staple at Rockets games as well and seldom missed watching his favorite sport, basketball.

He was also a Texas Longhorn for life. Gabriel’s mom Rita married Keith Zimmermann in 1983 and gained the father he always wanted. When his brother Luke Zimmermann was born, he was ecstatic and proudly showed him off.

His family loved him dearly. Gabriel joined his heavenly Father on December tk, 2018 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his Grandparents Mr.& Mrs. G.L Varnado, Mr. & Mrs. Lawes J. Alonzo, Minnie Merle Zimmermann and Werner E. Zimmermann.
