Obituary for Garth A. Webster In Memoriam – Garth Alan Webster July 4, 1933 – November 16, 2018 Garth was born on the Fourth of July, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio. A long time Miami resident, he was the eldest son of Florence Adamson and Willard “Bill” Carroll Webster, founder of Webster Outdoor Advertising. Along with his siblings, Barbara Gammon, Audrey Larson and Bill Webster, Jr., the family settled in the quaint and quiet area of Morningside in Miami.

Garth attended Edison Senior High School and went on to study at the University of Florida where he received his B.S.B.A. in 1955 and a Juris Doctorate in 1958. Garth married the love of his life, Josephine “Jo” Genevieve Fleury, on June 13, 1959 in Tampa, Florida and the newlyweds established their home in the Pinecrest area of Miami.

They raised four children who were the light of their lives; Anastasia (Stacy), Garth, John and Kristine. A devoted father and husband, Garth cherished time spent traveling the world with his beloved Jo and on his yearly family vacations to Naples and Captiva Island, Florida. Garth began his legal career with Taylor, Brown, Bucker, Haynes & Green before establishing the Law Firm of Wakefield, Hewitt & Webster.

Regarded by his peers as a valuable re in his knowledge of Real Estate and Probate Law, he went on to work with two distinguished firms; George, Hartz and Lundeen and the firm of Walton Lantaff until retirement in 2008. An avid sports enthusiast, Garth’s love of horse racing began with his father at Hialeah Race Track and Tropical Park Race Track alongside his father’s dear friend, William L. McKnight of the 3M Corporation. In later years he enjoyed many Saturdays at Calder Race Track and Gulfstream with friends and family.

A founding season ticket holder of the Miami Dolphins, Garth reveled in the glory years at the Orange Bowl and later at Joe Robbie Stadium. A Florida Gator by degree, he also enjoyed watching and rooting for the University of Miami Hurricanes with his many Coral Gables friends. But it was his passion for golf and the Riviera Country Club, where he served as a member on the Board of Directors, which provided him with so many years of enjoyment.

In addition, Garth was a member of the University Club of Miami and the Turf Clubs of Calder and Gulfstream Race Track. For anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Garth, the true hallmark of his personality was his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. Perhaps befitting one born on the fourth of July, Garth was a guy who lit up the room!

“Life of the party” is how friends and family often described his demeanor, someone who genuinely loved his life, lived it to the fullest and who could always be counted on for a great joke or a story to make everyone laugh! Our dearest Garth, Daddy, Pappy, words can never express how much you will be missed! Per your request, and as you reached the end of this most wonderful ride, you wanted your life to be remembered in this way: “VACATION ENDED”!

! In addition to his wife, Jo, he is survived by his four children Anastasia Briggle(Thomas), Garth Webster Jr. (Yvette), John Webster (Dana) and Kristine Webster-Sanchez (Juan). In later years he became “Pappy” to his beloved grandchildren, Emily,Sarah, Garth Webster III, and John and Anastasia Sanchez.
