Gary’s Obituary Gary ‘Bud’ Cotton, Sr., 71, of North Platte, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018, while under hospice care. Gary was born along with his twin brother, Jerry, on May 26, 1947, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Fredrick and Betty Cotton. The family lived in Cheyenne where the boys attended Cheyenne East High School and graduated in 1965.

After graduating, Gary hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad and worked in the Mechanical Department. He moved to North Platte in 1969 and transferred to the Transportation Department where he worked as an Engineer for 3rd District. After working for over 40 years, Gary retired in 2007.

Gary wed Phyllis Homan in 1966 and Maria Nehls in 1996. He loved spending time with Jerry fishing, hunting and doing lawn work at North Shore, Lake McConaughy where they met and enjoyed the company of many friends. Gary especially loved and spoiled his dog, Whisper.

Gary is survived by his son, Shayne Cotton, twin brother, Jerry (Judy) Cotton, brother, Keith (Cindy) Cotton and sister, Carol Cotton, all of North Platte; granddaughter, Rylie Cotton; great-grandson, Bennett Cotton; three nieces; other family and his numerous friends at North Shore, Lake McConaughy. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary, Jr.; parents, Fred and Betty; nieces, Lori Lynn and Lisa Marie; and great-niece, Tiara Jade. At Gary’s request cremation was chosen and there will be no services.
