Gary L. Race December 21, 1947 – January 25, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Gary L. Race, 71, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:49 P.M., Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Union County Hospital in Anna, IL. Gary had been a truck driver and was owner and operator of a trucking service for several years. He also owned Our Place II Bar for five years.

Gary was of the Baptist faith. He was a United States Navy veteran of Vietnam. Gary was a member of the Du Quoin V.F.W.

He was born December 21, 1947 at Ft. Worth, TX, the son of Grover Tillman and Virda (Robson) Race. He is survived by two daughters – Amy Patterson and husband Mike of Du Quoin and Amanda Race and husband Mike Race of Palm Bay, FL, three grandchildren – Ahusten Patterson, Jakeb Patterson, and Blake Patterson, two sisters – Debby Estill and husband Steve and Judy Richter and husband Bobby, all of Ft.

Worth, TX, and one nephew – Danny Wayne Heath of Ft. Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother – Maurice Stein Race.

Funeral services will be at Noon, Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating. Friends may call from 11 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the United States Navy. Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin. Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
