Gary Lee Simpson, 77, of Lupine Hill Drive in Lyndonville, Vt. passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Gary was born on May 18, 1941, in Red Village, Lyndon, Vt.

to the late Theodore and Fannie (Reed) Simpson. He attended Brookside School in Kirby followed by Lyndon Institute graduating with the Class of 1959. He served in the Army and after his discharge he went to work for New England Tel & Tel as a central office equipment installer.

In 1963 married Pamela G. Benoit. They lived on Finney Hill for 20 years and raised their children there. During those years Gary was active at Lyndon Outing Club where he was a member to the ski patrol, a director and for a time was President.

In the late 80s, Gary & Pam built a house on Lupine Hill Drive where the couple resided for the last 30 years. After his retirement from the phone company, Gary was ski lift operator at Burke Mountain for 20 years. Also, during the summer months he enjoyed working at the Caledonia County Fair Grounds.

At the present time, Gary volunteered at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital and was President of the Auxiliary. He was a Ham radio operator and spent many hours on his radio. He was a member of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren and traveling to North Carolina, Maine, Florida and many other places to visit family and friends. Gary & Pam also made many road trips. Gary fulfilled a lifetime dream of owning and sailing a sailboat, and the family has fond memories of three summers spent sailing in Casco Bay in the early 2000s.

Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years: Pamela B. Simpson of Lyndonville; two sons: Lee A. Simpson and wife, Ann, of Allenstown, NH, and Lance M. Simpson of Greenland, NH; mother-in-law: Carlene Marshall of St. Johnsbury; 3 sisters-in-law: Mary Marley of Wilmington, NC, Anne Peramba and husband Richard Drozdal of Conway, MA, and Alice Herrmann also of Conway, MA; brother-in-law: Tom Benoit and wife Linda of Bolton, VT; 3 grandchildren: Samuel, Chase & Mia Simpson; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents: Theodore A. Simpson and Fannie A. Simpson; a brother: Gayland E. Simpson; a sister-in-law: Nancy Simpson: and a brother-in-law: Paul Herrmann. Friends may call on the family on Friday, January 4, 2018, 6-8PM at Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville, VT.

A Funeral Service officiated by Rev. James Proctor will be held Saturday, January 5, 2018, 11AM at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church, 100 Church Street in Lyndonville, VT. There will be a luncheon following the service.
