Gary Thomas Smith January 19, 1953 – April 28, 2019 Share this obituary Upload Photo| View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences Gary Thomas Smith, age 66 of Brick died peacefully on Sunday, 4/28/19 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. He was born in Jersey City and lived in Union Beach before moving to Brick in 1978. He was self-employed as a Landscape Irrigation Specialist and was the owner of Active Lawn Irrigation Company of Brick for over 30 years.

He loved boating, traveling in his RV, was an avid reader, enjoyed camping on the islands of Lake George, fishing, target shooting, and appreciated a fine quality Bourbon. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his adoring family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Joanne G. (Casiero) Smith; his loving daughter, Laura Anne Fitzgerald and her husband, Joshua Brian of Brick; two granddaughters, Emily and Mia who were the light of his life; his brother, Michael and his wife, Nancy of Florida; two sisters, Arleen Opatosky and her husband, David and Susan Merla and her husband, Charles, all of Hazlet; his devoted dog, Casper and numerous nieces & nephews.

Interment is private. Laurelton Memorial Funeral Home in Brick is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to your local animal shelter or any charity to benefit animals, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
