Obituary for Gary Wayne Harper Print Gary Wayne Harper, 66, of Elkview, WV passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Gary was born August 15, 1952 in Falling Rock, WV to the late Amos G. Harper and Madeline F. Harper Sharpe. He graduated from Herbert Hoover High School Class of ’71.

He wore many different hats of the Emergency Services. He was a part-time deputy sheriff in Roane County, WV, an EMT in Brevard County, Florida, then moved back to WV as a paramedic with Ashley Ambulance and Wrecker Service, along with Rick’s Ambulance. He was a former member of the Clendenin Volunteer Fire Department, and worked for the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, where he retired in 2008.

He was active member of the Red Knights International Motorcycle Club, WV Chapter 2 and most recently a funeral attendant for Hafer Funeral Home. In addition to his parents he is proceeded in death by his stepmother Virginia Harper; brother, James W. Harper and grandparents, Jasper and Louisa Harper and Samuel and Clara Hays. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Sussion M. Harper; daughter, Madeline L. Harper and fiancé Nick Fitzwater of Elkview; son, Christopher T. Harper and wife, Ashley of Lexington, KY; two fur babies Bink and Copper.

He is also survived by brothers, George of Gandeeville, WV and Harold, of Clendenin, WV. Special thanks to Bill Carpenter, Aaron Burchman, Praveen Srinivasan, Nancy Harper, the Thaxton family and our Hafer Funeral Home family. The family would also like to thank the staff of CAMC Memorial 5 South and 3 North for their compassionate care and exceptional professionalism.

A visitation for Gary will be Monday, February 4th from 5-8pm at Hafer Funeral Home. Service will be 11:00am Tuesday, February 5th at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Swor officiating. Burial will be at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.
