Obituary for Gayle Ernest Wittig Wittig, Gayle Ernest Was born October 19, 1930 to Ernest and Anna Wittig of Mpls. , MN. Gayle died on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at his home in Florida with his wife by his side.
He was 87 years old. He grew up in North Minneapolis. He was baptized and confirmed at First Covenant Church in Minneapolis.
He received his education at Patrick Henry High School. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Mittelstadt in the late 1950’s in Iowa. The two made their home in the Lake Minnetonka area and were blessed with 2 sons Gregg and Larry.
Gayle owned apartment buildings and St. Paul and then purchased a fishing resort on Lake Minnetonka. Later, he purchased Roxy’s Resort and the Harbor Inn on Maxwell Bay. The two properties became known as Gayle’s Marina Corp.
He ran the marina for 40+ years. The DNR purchased the marina property in 1995. In 2000, he married Shirley Tatge and they summered on Mille Lacs Lake and wintered in Florida.
Gayle was an avid fishman and hunter. His favorite color was red. Gayle is survived by his wife Shirley; son Larry of Mound, MN; two grandchildren Brandon and Joshua; several nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Noel; and son Gregg. Interment Crystal Lake Cemetery.
