Gene’s Obituary Gene J. Coufal, 78 years, of Fremont, Nebraska died Friday, December 28, 2018 at Methodist Fremont Health in Fremont. Gene was born June 29, 1940 in Rochester, Minnesota to Frank and Bessie (Herot) Coufal. He grew up at Howells, Nebraska and was a 1958 graduate of Howells High School.

He moved to Fremont and worked for Lyman Richey for 37 years. Gene married Hazel Stouffer on May 28, 1959 at Taber Catholic Church at Howells. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, a Third Degree Knights of Columbus member, Fremont Corvette Club, and FO Eagles of Fremont.

He loved hotrods, motorcycles, and cars. He was voted for having the loudest pipes on his car in high school. He was also a mechanic on the side out of his garage.

Gene also was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Hazel of 59 years, of Fremont; son, Cory (Cindy) Coufal of Fremont; daughter, Cindy (Stan) Hart of Fremont; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carrie Coufal; sister, Mildred Polodna; brother, Elvin Coufal and one step great grandchild.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 2, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM with family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM and a rosary at 7 PM all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to the family for further designation. Moser Memorial Chapel, 2170 N. Somers Avenue, Fremont, NE 68025 402-721-4490.
