Obituary of Gennaro Rucci Verona-Gennaro Rucci Jr. age 90, a longtime resident of Verona passed away peacefully Wednesday evening February 20, 2019 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving and caring wife and family. He was born on February 1, 1929 in Atessa (Chieti) Italy a son of the late Gennaro Rucci and Maria Colantonio. As a young man Gennaro came to the United States but made many visits back to his homeland to visit his family.

Gennaro proudly served with the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict and then served with the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. On April 27, 1957 Gennaro and Antoinette Latini were united in marriage in St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church of Rome and shared this sacred vow of over sixty-one years together. Prior to his retirement of over thirty-five as an Aircraft Log Clerk from Griffis Air Force Base Gennaro was four times voted Airman of the Month.

He was also a mutual teller at Vernon Downs for thirty-five years. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church of Verona. In his spare time Gennaro enjoyed gardening, reading about history and traveling to Italy to visit his family; family was first and foremost.

Mourning his death is his loving wife, Antoinette, his six children, Maria, Ester Lynn, Mario J., Gennaro III, John Paul and Elizabeth Ann, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Requiem Mass of Christian Burial was held by Rev. Edmund Castronovo on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, E. Main Street, Verona.

Spring burial with military honors will be in St. John’s the Baptist Cemetery, Rome, NY. The Malecki Funeral Home of Vernon assisted the Rucci family with funeral arrangements.
