OBITUARY George F. Scofield December 9, 1928 – December 28, 2018 Dr. George F. Scofield passed away at his home on the evening of December 28, 2018. George was predeceased by his father, William Bert Scofield, mother, Ida Morrow Scofield, and sister, Jane Scofield Dewey. George will be greatly missed by his entire family, Patricia Trent Scofield, his wife of 69 years, his 4 children: Amy Carr (Larry), Ellen Bratton (Dave), Dr. Mark Scofield (Vicki), and Trent Scofield (Amy), and 6 grandsons: Michael Carr (Katy Beth), William Scofield, Andrew Scofield, Robby Scofield, George Scofield, and Sam Scofield.

George’s family would like to thank the amazing host of caregivers who provided loving care to George during his final years. George was a humble servant leader who loved the Lord and his family above all else. His dry wit, kind heart, and generous spirit touched many and will be deeply missed by all.

We are all grateful and better to have known and loved him and to have been a part of George’s wonderful life. George received an undergraduate degree from Howard College, a masters degree from the University of Georgia, and a medical degree from the Medical College of Alabama. George completed his residency in anatomical and clinical pathology at Carraway Methodist Hospital.

Following a military tour of duty as the Chief of Laboratory Services at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, George returned to Birmingham and was a founding member of Cunningham Pathology and MedLab. George was an esteemed physician who was a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists . He served as president of the Alabama Association of Pathologists.

George and Patricia were honored as Samford University’s 2000 Alumni of the Year. George was a faithful member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years and served as a Life Deacon. In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be directed to Mountain Brook Baptist Church or the Lakeshore Foundation.
