George Francis Xavier “FX” McInerney, Jr. passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at age 65, of complications from gliomatosis cerebri, an extremely rare form of brain cancer, at his mother in law’s house in Bayport, Long Island, around the corner from his childhood home. His wife of 39 years, Deborah Rohm McInerney, was by his side. Born October 30th 1952, FX was the second of the honorable George FX McInerney and Genelle McInerney’s six children.

With his siblings, Terry, Maureen, Tim, Patty, and Michael, FX made a name for his generation of McInerneys as fearless, loyal, energetic, and fun-loving hellions. FX came out the gate with a surfeit of energy, and never slowed down. He was insatiably curious about the world, especially the environment, sailing, and politics.

He was a man of undefeatable positivity and great intelligence, and one who lived by the principles and values he believed in. A modest man with little interest in or need for material things, he was selfless, generous, and immeasurably committed to caring for, providing for, and helping his family, friends, and anyone he met in any way he could. His capacity for awe and wonder were and will always be an inspiration to those who knew him.

FX is survived by his wife, Debi, his two daughters Michelle Wilkins and her husband Brady and Erin McInerney-Prichard and her husband Ian, his four grandchildren, Stella Wilkins, Rowyn Wilkins, Oliver Prichard, and Margot Prichard, and his four siblings, Teresa, Patty, Tim, and Michael McInerney. Friends and relatives will gather for a celebration of FX’s life on Monday, April 30, 6:00 – 9:00 PM, and Tuesday, May 1, 11:00 – 2:00 PM, with a memorial service at 1:00 PM, at the Raynor and Dandrea Funeral Home, 683 Montauk Highway, Bayport, NY 11705. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of George FX McInerney Jr to any of the following: Columbia University Medical Center giving.
