George W. Hyde, Jr., 83, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Edgecombe County in North Carolina on June 12, 1935 and was a son of the late George W. Hyde, Sr. and Elizabeth Manning Hyde. In July of 1955, he married the former Virginia Johnson.

Mr. Hyde served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He was the manager for McCrory’s Dime Store with over 40 years service, working at different locations. He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar and singing.

He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cornersville. He is survived by his wife Virginia Hyde of Cambridge, three children Lori Creighton and husband Lannie of Cambridge, George Hyde III and wife Joyce of Cambridge and Chris Hyde and wife Diane of Cambridge, seven grandchildren Joshua Hyde, Jordan Hyde, Amber Koch (Richard), Megan Hurley (James), Jeremy Johnson, Anna Hyde and Christina Hyde, two great grandchildren Leighton Koch and Trey Koch and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also the oldest of nine children.

Beside his parents, Mr. Hyde is preceded in death by a brother. Pallbearers will be Josh Hyde, Grant Powley, Richard Koch, James Hurley, Lannie Creighton, and JT North. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Father Dan Dunlap officiating.

Interment will follow at St. John’s Churchyard in Cornersville. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 909 Progress Circle, Ste.
