Georgianne Lynn Williams, age 70, surrounded by her loved ones, passed away on November 15, 2018, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. She was the beloved mother of Heather Smith (Daryl) of Fishers, Indiana and Travis Williams (Crystal) of Sheridan, Indiana. She was a proud grandmother to Marissa West (David), Kelby Smith, Trevor Williams and fiancé’ Hollie Bush, Haley & Evan Williams, Drew & Austin Whicker.
Georgianne was born in Santa Cruz, California on August 4, 1948 at Sisters Hospital, Santa Cruz, California, to Robert Eugene and Elaine Helen (Hickley) Evans. Her mother told her she was named Georgianne after Sister Georgianne, who was working at the hospital when she was born. The Evans family lived in Santa Cruz for a few years while her Dad worked construction and also worked in a logging camp with his brother.
Robert and Elaine decided to move his family back to the Midwest. They lived in Millard, Nebraska for a while, and then moved to Omaha, Nebraska to live with Elaine’s father for a short time, before moving to Belleville, Kansas, which is the place their children called their hometown. As a young girl Georgianne enjoyed babysitting for several neighborhood families.
She was a member of Girl Scouts, achieving Cadet status. While she was in Girl Scouts, she learned to sew. This started her love of sewing.
She made most of her clothes and also did sewing for children, her grandchildren and friends. After the family moved back to Belleville, Kansas, Georgianne’s father became ill, with a form of cancer. While her mother was working, Georgianne helped in the care of her father until he passed away.
During high school, Georgianne was a member of the Belleville Pep Club and choir. Georgianne graduated Belleville High School in 1966. After graduation she attended Concordia Business College, taking paralegal classes.
It was during this time she started working for an attorney in Belleville. She often spoke about how “tight” he was, that in the winter it would be so cold in the office that she would have to wear gloves with the end of the fingers cut off so she could still type. Georgianne’s brother, Michael, while working at Williams Drilling in Belvidere, Nebraska met Dennis Williams and thought he was a good, hard working and honest man, so he introduced him to his sister, Georgianne.
Once they met the rest is history, the two fell in love. Dennis graduated from Fairbury Junior College in 1968 and enlisted in the U. S. Air Force that same year. Once he completed basic training, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Georgianne.
While he was away, Georgianne had been busy designing and sewing her wedding gown and all of her bridesmaid’s dresses. The couple married July 12,1969 at the First United Methodist Church in Belleville, Kansas. She carried her cherished Bible enhanced with a bouquet of daisies and a special handkerchief.
All who attended remembered the occasion well because it was one of the hottest days of summer and the air conditioner was not working. Following their marriage, Dennie (and Georgianne) reported to his next training assignment for Intelligence Operations Specialist at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. After his training was complete in December of 1969, he received his first military assignment, Vietnam.
They decided that Georgianne should return to live with her mother in Belleville, Kansas while he was on assignment. Their daughter, Heather Ann, was born September 29,1970 and the family was reunited shortly after when Dennie returned home from Vietnam. The next assignment for the family was Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV.
The newly reunited family then packed their belongings and traveled west, where they made their home until Dennie was discharged in 1972. After his discharge, they returned to Hebron, Nebraska to make their home and Dennie became a partner in the family business. They purchased a small home in Hebron at 11th & Olive.
This was where they started being fixer-uppers. This is where they were living when their son, Travis Ray, was born on November 11, 1974. They later upgraded to a larger home on the corner of 5th & Duffield, which also required some updating.
This was the house that Heather and Travis considered their family home. Georgianne lived a full life as a mother, homemaker, seamstress and many other creative talents. During those years, Georgianne was very involved in the community and schools.
For several years she helped with the Summer Reading Program with the Hebron Public Library. She would illustrate a book, and would add the finishing touches as the story was being read. It was a BIG hit!
The family was members of the Hebron Christian Church and then moved their membership to the United Methodist Church. Georgianne was an active member in the church. She served on the Altar Guild, sang in the choir, taught and assisted with Vacation Bible School in the summer as well as teaching Sunday school.
In her spare time, it was common to find Georgianne sitting at her sewing machine. She was a talented seamstress making clothes for herself and her children. Daughter Heather was married June 21st in 1991; Georgianne repeated what she had done years before for her own wedding by designing her loveliest creation as a seamstress.
She designed and created a lovely ivory satin and lace wedding gown as well as all of the wedding attendants along with the floral bouquets. Her talents spread into her love of art and decorating. She was a great cook and loved cooking favorite meals for Dennie and kids.
She also had a love of dolls and had a collection of over 100 dolls. Georgianne also loved gardening and had a “green thumb”, especially with iris. She had a big Iris bed at the house on the corner of 5th & Duffield that was always so pretty in early summer.
Her skills with sewing was a plus when she joined Drew’s Fabric Store. She worked for Naomi Drews for several years until the fabric shop closed. She then worked for American Family Insurance Agent, Gary Peters and also helped at the Farm Bureau on occasion.
In 1990, Dennie and Georgianne made a decision to opt out of Williams Drilling and later relocated to Lincoln and Dennie became associated with the Winn Nelson Co. While living in Lincoln, they became “fixer-uppers” again, purchasing a big two-story home on Sumner St. in the South Bottoms Neighborhood. In 1994, they moved to Utah to be nearer to their children who had re-located there. Dennie and Georgianne bought a two-story Victorian home in Lehi, Utah.
They became “fixer-uppers” once again. They were a good team and worked well together. Two of their favorite things to do in Utah were going for long drives in the mountains and spoiling their grandkids.
They were active in The Way, an International Fellowship Ministries doing outreach and community ministries. They became very close friends with Pastor Gene and his wife. On their 35th Wedding Anniversary a celebration was held in their church with a vow renewal witnessed by family and friends.
They lived in Utah until 2012 when a decision was made to move them to Indiana, where their children were living. After their move, they especially enjoyed watching their grandson Kelby’s Power Soccer games and were privileged to attend the wedding of their granddaughter Marissa when she married David West on December 19, 2015. The love Dennie and Georgianne shared for each other was always visible to all those around them and the love and pride they had for their children and their grandchildren was always evident.
Georgianne was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Dennis; her parents, Robert and Elaine Evans; Dennis’s parents, Lawrence and Pauline Williams; brother Michael Evans; sister-in-law, Marcia Williams; nephew and niece, Jay and Julie Williamson. Others who mourn Georgianne’s passing include her brother, Dennis Evans and his wife, Sherry; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Evans; Dennis’s siblings, Kent & Jackie Williamson; Ron Williams; Doug & Dee Williams; Dick & Jan Carr and many nieces, nephews and friends. Celebration of Life services will be held June 1, 2019 at Belvidere United Church of Christ; Belvidere, NE at 10:30 AM.
