Gerald A. “Jazz” Gordon, 82, died Saturday, March 2, 2019 in his Springfield home. Born in Springfield on July 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Gerald and Alice (Gillette) Gordon. Jazz was a firefighter for the City of Springfield, at the Pine Street Station, the Oakland Street Station and the Indian Orchard station, and served for 32 years until he retired in 1993.

He was a lifelong resident of Springfield, and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Jazz was a member of the Italian American Club of Springfield, the Elks Lodge on Tiffany St., Springfield and the SFD Privates Club. He was the husband of the late Marilyn J. (Batchelor) Gordon, the brother of the late Alice Elia, Shirley Hadden, Gail Hackett, Geraldine McQuade and Elaine McQuade and thefather-in-law of the late Darlene Gordon.

Jazz is survived by his three children, Gerald Gordon, Theresa Provencher and James Gordon all of Springfield, a sister, Karen Penna of East Longmeadow, a grandson, Gary Provencher of Springfield and many nieces and nephews. Jazz’ family would like to extend their thanks to Ellen Kennedy who was a wonderful caregiver to Jazz. Calling Hours for Jazz will be on Saturday, March 9, from 2-4pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave.

, Springfield followed by at 4pm at Funeral Service with Military Honors in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jazz’ memory may be made to the Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center, 627 Cottage St., Springfield, MA, 01104.
