Obituary for Gerald “Jerry” Cannon GERALD D. “JERRY” CANNON, 64 EAST LIVERPOOL – Gerald D. “Jerry” Cannon, 64, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana. He was born on December 9, 1953 in East Liverpool, a son of the late Gerald O. and Hazel M. Heckathorne Cannon. Jerry was a 1972 graduate of East Liverpool High School, and received an Associate’s degree from Kent State University.

He was raised at the First United Methodist Church in East Liverpool. Jerry had worked at TS&T Pottery at one time, and later was employed at Burns Security. He, along with his mother, had run the Dresden Avenue Dairy Queen for many years.

Jerry had been a teaching pro at the Boardman Tennis Center, and had coached tennis since 1984. He belonged to the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association and had earned over 200 titles as a competitive tennis player. A lifetime member of the United State Tennis Association, Midwest District, he also belonged to the USTA Officials Association, and the U.S. Professional Tennis Association.

He is survived at home by his wife, Wendy L. Lewis Cannon, whom he married on September 10, 1983. Also surviving is a daughter, Katie Higgs and her husband, Michel, of Cockeysville, MD; and two sons, Gregory Anthony Rassen and his husband Jeremy, of Forrest Hills, NY; and Marc R. Killen-Cannon and his husband Patrick of Seattle, WA. There are two grandchildren, Gabriel and Sylvia Rassen, and an extended family of life-long tennis friends and enthusiasts.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday where the family will be present from 3 to 8 p.m., and again one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
