Gerald Franklin Meadows passed away on April 28, 2019 with his loving caregiver of 12 years, Dawn Osadchuk, by his side. He was predeceased by his brothers, Hal Meadows of Washington State and Switzerland, and Joseph M. Meadows, MD, of Ann Arbor. He leaves behind many loving friends and is survived by his nieces and nephews and their families: Suzanne Meadows Murphy and Nicole France Meadows in Michigan, Marc Alain Meadows in Washington DC, Michele Annette Meadows of Rhode Island, Hal Meadows Jr., Tina Marie Meadows and Robin Lynell Meadows, of Washington State.

Jerry was born August 31, 1931 in Jonesboro, AR where he graduated from Jonesboro High School. He later attended the University of Memphis, majoring in English. With the onset of the Korean War, Jerry joined the National Guard and fought in the Korean War where he was wounded and received an honorable discharge.

He later moved to Detroit where he worked as a copywriter for Campbell-Ewald in the 1960s while attending Wayne State University, where he earned a master’s degree in art and several bachelor’s degrees in English, Geography, and History. The 1970’s found him in Alexandria, VA working as an engineer, again returning to Michigan after 10 years. The 1980’s and 90’s found him in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he was one of the initial developers involved in the renovation of Depot Town, and where he also bought and restored Follett House.

At the Heritage Festival, he enjoyed playing the comedic Professor Malarkey, a spoof on old-time snake oil barkers. Meanwhile, he taught K-12 in the Detroit and Ann Arbor school systems retiring only to work at Sears where he finally retired in the early 2000s. He enjoyed eight of his golden years at American House in Ypsilanti.

All his life, Jerry was a passionate traveler and often visited Europe where he had a special fondness for France. His cremated remains will be interred at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. A memorial will be held in September when family can attend.
