OBITUARY Gerald Garris McGlamery August 31, 1937 – November 20, 2018 Gerald Garris (Gerry) McGlamery Sr of Bellaire, Texas, went to be with the Lord on 20 November 2018 after a long battle with dementia. He was 81. Gerry was a devoted husband and father.

He and his wife, Barbara, raised their family in Florence, Alabama, where he was both a deacon and elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He supported the growth of his family in both character and spirit through numerous community activities. These included Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, and various youth sports.

Other than his family, his greatest joy was serving his collegiate alma mater, Auburn University, from which he graduated as a chemical engineer, in various volunteer roles. He was a member of the Alumni Engineering Council, the Chemical Engineering Alumni Advisory Council, and the Lauderdale County Legislative Committee. He and his family created several endowments at Auburn in support of the College of Engineering.

Gerry was named a Distinguished Auburn Engineer in the College of Engineering in 1987 and an Outstanding Alumnus of the Department of Chemical Engineering in 2002. Gerry was born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, on 31 August 1937 to George Allen and Ruby Wilma Landreth McGlamery. He was the third of three sons.

He was raised in Florence, Alabama, and graduated from Coffee High School in 1955. After graduating from Auburn (then Alabama Polytechnic Institute) in 1959, he started his career with Olin Mathieson Corporation in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. He and Barbara married in 1960.

In 1962, they moved to Decatur, Alabama, where he worked for the Monsanto Company. In 1966, the family moved to Florence, Alabama, where Gerry began his career with the U.S. Tennessee Valley Authority. He retired from TVA in 1993 as a nationally recognized expert in the technology of flue gas desulfurization.

That same year, he and Barbara moved to Mandeville, Louisiana, where Gerry began his employment with Entergy Corporation. He retired from Entergy in 2000. Gerry was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Coggins McGlamery, in 1997, and his brother, Charles Allen McGlamery, in 2009.

He is survived by his two sons, Gerald G. McGlamery Jr. (Lynette) and George L. McGlamery (MaryAnn), his granddaughter, Caitlin, all of Houston, Texas, and his brother, Samuel Clinton McGlamery (Virginia) of Austin, Texas.
